Tasso
Katselas Associates, Inc.s institutional experience includes correctional and
detention facilities on the federal, state, county and municipal level. In addition to
inmate housing and administration projects at the State Correctional Institution at
Pittsburgh, the firm has completed a number of jail projects for Allegheny County,
including the Allegheny County Jail, the Allegheny County Jail Annex, and several
detention facilities at Pittsburgh International Airport. |
Allegheny
County Jail
As design architect for the new jail, the firm undertook several difficult design
challenges. As the limited site size and configuration mandated a high-rise solution; TKA
designed seven towers of varying height to preserve the view to and from an adjoining
bluff. The jail was a recipient of a Citation for Design Excellence, awarded at the 1992
AIA/ACA Exhibition of Architecture for Justice. One of only five citation winners, the
jail particularly impressed the jurors with its creative use of limiting site constraints
and its clear and efficient circulation. |
Tasso Katselas Associates,
Inc.s educational expertise extends over a wide range of elementary, secondary,
college and technical institutions. The firm has completed master plans for both rural and
urban campuses, and realized major portions of those master plans. Projects at these
institutions include classrooms, dining facilities, athletic facilities, libraries,
theaters, and administrative and support facilities. |
